About People of the Land

“People of the Land” is a cultural celebration and collaboration, embodying the essence of Australian indigenous artists and their profound connection to the land. It’s a showcase of their stories and artistry, a platform for these talented individuals to share their rich heritage with the world.

About the artist: Lewis Burns

Lewis Burns is a Tubba-Gah Wiradjuri man born and living in Dubbo, NSW. He has been learning about his Aboriginal culture for as long as he can remember.

He continues to practice and respect these life skills each day and still learns and grows from this ancient knowledge. Lewis’ love of his heritage is evident when you speak with him and depicted even more in his Aboriginal crafts, traditional dancing, didgeridoo performances, mural paintings and teaching.

Trajectory

He is very dedicated to sharing what he knows with others to help keep these customs alive.

Lewis paints in traditional Wiradjuri Aboriginal as well as contemporary styles. He has exhibited globally and performed globally with his handcrafted didgeridoos.

Each piece of Lewis’ artwork tells a story… A story that will live on forever through the generations, as the artwork is handed down from one family to another.

Vision

Importantly, Lewis is an artist member of the Indigenous Art Code which represents and commits to the insurance of ethical practices and fair treatment of artists and their art.

Lewis recently has focused on creating more contemporary designs that connect to both the modern view of art and still pay respect to his ancestry roots and indigenous culture.

This embracing of more modern designs allows Lewis to use technology to create more designs and variety.

These products feature authentic Indigenous artwork designed by Aboriginal artists, celebrating their cultural heritage. They are intended to provide businesses with high-quality, culturally respectful merchandise that can also incorporate their own branding.

Can I customize the Indigenous artwork itself?

No, the Indigenous artwork layout and design cannot be altered. The artwork is created by Aboriginal artists who are compensated with royalties for their work. Maintaining the integrity of the design ensures respect for the artist’s vision and cultural heritage.

Why are these designs protected from alteration?

These designs are culturally significant and represent the artists’ heritage and storytelling. Altering them could compromise the cultural value and authenticity of the work. Additionally, it is important to ensure the artists’ creative rights are respected.

Are these products officially certified as Aboriginal-made?

Yes, all products are created in collaboration with Aboriginal artists who are fairly compensated through royalty agreements. Our products adhere to ethical standards of collaboration and authenticity.

Branding & Customisation

Can I add my own logo or branding to the product?

Yes, there are designated areas on each product where your logo or branding can be placed. The Indigenous artwork remains unchanged, but your branding will be seamlessly integrated into the available space.

What areas are available for customization?

Each product has specific areas reserved for branding. These are in areas where there are blank sections of the product. Guidelines are provided in the artwork templates for placement to ensure your branding looks great while respecting the original design.

Can I change the colours or reposition the Indigenous artwork?

No, the Indigenous artwork is fixed and cannot be recoloured, resized, or repositioned. This preserves the integrity of the artist’s work and respects the cultural significance of the designs.

Artists receive royalties from every sale of their designs, ensuring they are fairly rewarded for their work and cultural contributions.

Can I create my own Indigenous-inspired artwork for the products?

We strongly discourage creating Indigenous-inspired artwork unless it is done by an Aboriginal artist with proper cultural permissions and respect. Our approach ensures authenticity and supports Aboriginal communities.

What steps are taken to ensure ethical collaboration with artists?

We engage with Aboriginal artists directly through fair royalty agreements, ensuring transparency and mutual respect. We are committed to preserving the cultural integrity of their work.
